Unspent Apprenticeship Levy
Do you have unspent apprenticeship levy?
The Apprenticeship landscape has came along way since the introduction of the Apprenticeship Levy back in April 2017. Now, nearly 20 months in and the first claw back of unspent levy just around the corner, you’ve got to ask yourself are you utilising your all of your levy to its full potential?
The first month of unspent apprenticeship levy funds will be taken back a few months into the new year (April 2019). Yet it seems that some employers are still unsure on how to spend and utilise their levy pot.
Once it’s gone, it’s gone
Payments from your account to your training provider always use the oldest funds first. But funds you don’t use will expire 24 months after they enter your account. For example, funds entering your account in September 2017 will expire in September 2019.
What you can do
Apprenticeships don’t just have to be used on newly hired employees. They are a great way of training and upskilling your existing staff.
Within some Apprenticeships there are qualifications you might normally have to pay full price for. For example ILM, CMI, CIPD. Using your levy to achieve these qualifications can save you money.
